We must all do our part to support the sea-change in culture and politics regarding equality and justice for all peoples. For many reasons, representation in geoscience by under-represented groups is lagging behind that of other fields at at all levels from student to emeritus faculty. This recent posting from the American Geophysics Union — Black in Geoscience — makes this fact clear, asserts that being silent is a form of complicity, and provides career snapshots of notable Earth scientists in the subfield of geodynamics. We geoscientists at UConn share the AGU perspective, are working toward improvement with specific steps (recently our ongoing NSF-supported GEOPATHS project), and take disciplinary pride in the successes of the geoscientists featured here.
